Screen Slate is searching for a new web developer to become a core part of our team and help us shape the future of the site.
You’ll collaborate with our founder/editor-in-chief, longtime lead engineer (who is now stepping back into a review and guidance role), and a small but passionate editorial and design team. This involves:
- Maintaining and improving our existing Drupal + React site
- Implementing new features and bug fixes and ensuring smooth performance across browsers and devices
- Getting up to speed with the current lead engineer through code review and technical direction
- Working with the team to brainstorm new features and paths for their implementation
The ideal person possesses:
- Full-stack experience with Drupal (including custom modules, views, and general theming) and React
- Proficiency in CSS, responsive layouts, and accessible front-end design
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming, knowledge of PHP is a bonus
- Strong debugging and QA skills and a commitment to contributing robust and maintainable code
- An active familiarity with Screen Slate and an enthusiasm for collaborating on ideas, features, and new directions that will benefit your fellow users
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, hit deadlines, and operate without close oversight
- Comfort working with early and/or loosely defined ideas and contributing product/technical feedback early in the process
- Ability to handle occasional DevOps or infrastructure issues (hosting, deployments, integrations) as they arise
Screen Slate is a small but committed team composed entirely of part-time workers and operating with a DIY ethos. We primarily communicate virtually and occasionally meet up on evenings and weekends as our schedules allow. This is an ongoing role that can be invoiced hourly or on a project basis. The estimate is five hours a week – but we’re juggling a long wishlist of projects, so there is some flexibility.
Email (jon-at-screenslate-dot-com) with a resume and some info about yourself, your financial parameters, and your interest in the role. Thank you!
