Monday, black hole cinematheque's Newsreel Collective series continues with Teach Our Children, about the 1971 Attica Prison riots, at 34 Trinity, Odyssey Film Institute presents Ferris Bueller's Day Off (on 35mm) at the Balboa, Kiss Me Deadly is at the Alamo Drafthouse Valley Fair (VF), Sorry to Bother You is at the Drafthouse Mountain View (MV), Top Gun: Maverick is at both Drafthouse MV and VF, I Am Cuba returns to and director Don Hardy is in person for Linda Perry: Let it Die Here at the Roxie, and Artists' Television Access launches a new monthly series exploring the SFAI experimental film collection with a seminar and an unannounced program.
 

Tuesday, Slumber Party Massacre II at the Alamo Drafthouse New Mission (NM), Roger Corman's John Sayles-scripted and John Cameron-art-directed Star Wars cash-in Battle Beyond the Stars (1980) is at the Drafthouse MV, black hole's Newsreel screening at Bathers is a pairing of Isle of Youth and 79 PrimaverasPee-wee’s Big Adventure(on 35mm) is this month's staff pick at the Roxie, Aleksandr Sokurov's Mother and Son is at the Balboa, and—don't tell the ORB we're scooping them on a book thing—Andreja Novakovic talks about her new book on Chantal Akerman at Womb House Books.
 

Wednesday, our feature this week, Amanda Kramer's By Design is at the Drafthouse NM, the Roxie has Mixtapes Side A and Side B, their recurring local filmmaker showcase, Sketches of Frank Gehry is at the Balboa, Phantom of the Paradise (repeats Thursday) is at the Vogue, The Basement presents The Lair of the White Worm (on VHS) at the 4 Star, and John Carney's Begin Again is at the Landmark Opera Plaza.
 

Thursday, Moral, a Filipino ensemble drama about four young women newly graduated from college during Marcos's martial law, is at the Roxie, Drop Dead Gorgeous (with live drag) is at the Balboa, Thabyay: Creative Resistance in Myanmar is at the 4 Star with the filmmaker in person, the Stanford's weekday Hitchcock double is Marnie and The Trouble with Harry (on 35mm, repeating Friday) the Orinda has a free screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and SFMOMA presents an evening of shorts to celebrate the publication of Larry Sultan's Water Over Thunder: Selected Writings (including  films by Bruce Conner and Jean Vigo).
 

Friday, the Balboa's Hitchcock Fest kicks off with double features all weekend long, eXistenZ and Eraserhead (on 35mm) return and Mad Bills to Pay opens at the Roxie, the 4 Star has an Arthur Russell tribute with a screning of Wild Combination, and the Orinda screens recent Korean drama Ky Nam Inn.
 

Saturday, Farewell My Concubine, Lina Wertmüller’s The Seduction of Mimi, and Sholay: The Final Cut are at the Roxie, Charlie Kaufman's Adaptation is at all three Drafthouses, the Balboa's Hitchcock Fest includes Rear Window on 35mm, the 4 Star has Dr. Seuss Classic Cartoons and a Coen Brothers double of Burn After Reading and Raising Arizona (all three repeating Sunday), the 4 Star has a Sun Ra double feature of Sun Ra: Do the Impossible, with director Christine Turner in person, and Sun Ra: A Joyful Noise, with live music, and the Stanford's weekend Hitchcock double is Vertigo and The Birds.
 

Sunday, the Balboa celebrates Bob Dylan's 85th birthday with Masked and Anonymous (on 35mm), something called UGLY BABY and Amadeus (theatrical cut) are at the Roxie, Carrie is at the Drafthouses MV and VF, Whip It is at the 4 Star, and John Carney's Sing Street is at the Landmark Opera Plaza.
