Fassbinder’s Querelle plays at the Balboa and Drafthouse New Mission has Raiders of the Lost Ark (repeats Weds in SF and Mountain View).
Tuesday, New Mission’s Terror Tuesday is Mini-DV horror Tinsman Road. Portrait of a Lady on Fire is at the Balboa and Pre-Code classic The Most Dangerous Game (1932) is at the Roxie. ATA presents an evening of shorts by Armenian filmmakers.
Wednesday, filmed-in-SF classic Pacific Heights is this week’s Weird Wednesday at New Mission, Interstellar plays Opera Plaza Cinema, Personal Best is at the Balboa, and Imitation of Life (1959) plays Alamo Mountain View. Frameline50 continues at its many venues, and crime-doc Mineshaft: The Cruising Murders is at the Roxie (followed by Friedkin’s Cruising). The Stanford Theater has noirs The Asphalt Jungle (1950) and Clash By Night (1952).
Thursday, Balboa’s Girlie Movie Club presents Bottoms accompanied by live drag. BAMPFA plays Estonian Oscar pick Rolling Papers and 4 Star plays surreal indie Matador Bolero. Frameline50 continues at Roxie and Vogue, and is back at the Castro with a full day of films, including this week’s featured screening Barbara Forever.
Friday, Frameline50 continues at the Roxie, Vogue, and BAMPFA, alongside another full day at the Castro that includes Hunky Jesus. Casablanca and Maltese Falcon play all weekend at the Stanford (always on 35mm). Roxie opens Ask E. Jean (director in person on Sat). Paramount Theater Classics’ returns with Fantasia (35mm), Velvet Goldmine plays the Balboa,Batman & Robin plays at the Lark (repeating Sunday), and Trixie Carr’s Fantasy Film Series presents Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is at Opera Plaza.
Saturday, Frameline50 concludes at the Roxie and Castro. The Castro's final lineup features comedy Loves Company, Billie Jean King doc Give me the Ball!, and Jane Schoenbrun’s latest Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. Outside the festival, Roxie has Moonrise Kingdom and their Almost Midnight pick: Querelle. The 4 Star hosts Frog and Toad for Popcorn Palace alongside 2001: A Space Odyssey (repeats Sunday). Niles Essanay hosts an evening of silent shorts including a Buster Keaton on 35mm.
Sunday, Kurosawa's Sanjuro plays all day at the Balboa. Celebrate Mel Brooks’ 100th birthday at the Smith Rafael with The Producers, and the Orinda plays Jean Cocteau’s Beauty and the Beast. Even beastlier, Godzilla vs. Biollante plays all three Alamos. Eric Thiese brings some cartographic explorations to the West Oakland Sound Series. At the Roxie, STArt Film Studio presents two films: Fly Me to the Moon and As the Water Flows.
