Tuesday, the Roxie screens Marielle Heller's SF-set The Diary of a Teenage Girl (followed by a Q&A with several people involved in the production) and Seduction: The Cruel Woman, the first in a series of three newly restored flims by Monika Treut, the Super Shangri-La Show presents 70s oddity Alabama's Ghost at the Balboa, the New Parkway has a Fritz Lang double feature of The Big Heat & Ministry of Fear, and Thir13en Ghosts (on 35mm) is at the Drafthouse NM.
Wednesday, the SF Dance Film Festival truly takes off, beginning with an art/experimental shorts program and continuing with full days through Sunday, a KPFA benefit screening of Maureen Gosling's The 9 Lives of Barbara Dane is at the Grand Lake with live music, F*** My Son! (on 35mm) preceded by Mike Kuchar's "The Stranger in Apartment F" is at the Drafthouse NM with director Todd Rohal and Kuchar in person, BAMPFA has a memorial screening of films by SFAI alum Tomonari Nishikawa (on 16mm) as part of their long-running Alternative Visions series, the Roxie has the first night of our feature this week, Larry Gottheim: The Red Thread, The Battle of Algiers is at the Balboa, and The Maltese Falcon is at the Vogue.
Thursday, the Rialtos Cerrito and Elmwood have free matinees of The Sting, the Stanford's first Western double feature of the week is Raoul Walsh's self-remake of High Sierra, Colorado Territory, and Sam Fuller's Run of the Arrow (both on 35mm, repeating Friday) SFFILM's Doc Stories festival takes over the Vogue with an opening day of My Mom Jayne with director Mariska Hargitay in person and Cover-Up with directors Laura Poitras and Mark Obenhaus and film-subject Seymour Hersh in person, at BAMPFA, Rice People begins a weekend of films by Cambodian flimmaker Rithy Panh and Lightning continues Mikio Naruse: The Auteur as Salaryman, the Roxie screens a double feature of The Disinvited with director Devin Lawrence and writer Matthew Mourgides in a Q&A led by Joshua Grannell a.k.a.
