Monday, Sidney Lumet's River Phoenix-starring Running On Empty is at the Balboa, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover and Millennium Actress are at the Roxie, Noah Baumbach's George Clooney-starring Jay Kelly continues its exclusive 35mm run at the Grand Lake, the Rialto Cerrito has a final shot at Frankenstein and Train Dreams on 35mm (but I swear that's what they said last week?), the New Parkway screens Songs from the Hole with the director Contessa Gayles in person for a Q&A, and North by Northwest and gay coming-of-age comedy Griffin in Summer are at the Lark.

Tuesday, our feature this week, co-presented by your very own Screen Slate and Rewind, is John Waters's Serial Mom, at the Roxie alongside the final film in their Monika Treut series, Gendernauts, with Susan Stryker and Jenni Olson in person, and Coexistence My Ass! (through Saturday), Jason X is at the Drafthouse New Mission (NM), The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover is, coincidentally, at the Balboa, and the New Parkway has Jimmy in Saigon and a noir double of Blast of Silence and The Lineup.

Wednesday, The Net is at the Drafthouse NM, Extreme Private Eros: Love Song 1974 continues the long-running Alternative Visions experimental film series at BAMPFA, at the Roxie, a new restoration of Angel’s Egg opens (also at the Balboa) and Mistress Dispeller continues, The Tallest Dwarf is at the New Parkway, Xanadu (repeats Thursday) is at the Vogue, and The Game is at the 4 Star.

Thursday, Ginza Cosmetics continues BAMPFA's Mikio Naruse series, Come See Me In The Good Light (repeating Sunday) continues at the Roxie, and Over the Garden Wall and anti-solitary confinement hunger strike doc The Strike are at the New Parkway

Friday, the Stanford kicks off a weekend of silent westerns featuring live Wurlitzer organ accompaniment with Gary Cooper's breakout role in Henry King's The Winning of Barbara Worth, BAMPFA has its third and final Gunvor Nelson program, Peter Hujar’s Day and Put Your Soul On Your Hand and Walk open at the Roxie, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is at the New Parkway, Napoleon Dynamite is at the Lark, Face/Off is at the Balboa, and the Golden Gate Armenian Film Festival takes over the Vogue.

Saturday, BAMPFA continues its Frederick Wiseman series with Boston city gov doc City Hall and a new restoration of Kazakh New Wave historical epic The Fall of Otrar, director Sam Fleischer is in person to present his Animal Collective-scored experimental climate change doc Jetty at the Roxie, the Stanford's silent western with live Wurlitzer accompaniment pick for the night is Lillian Gish's final silent film, The Wind (and this is one to not miss—if ever a movie was suited to a haunting, swirling, booming Wurlitzer score!), Creature from the Black Lagoon (in 3D!, on 35mm!, repeating Sunday) is at the Balboa, the 4 Star has an Autumn Cartoon Special and Deathtrap (both repeating Sunday), the Niles Essanay Silent Film Musem has its monthly comedy shorts night, Sally Gearheart doc Sally! is at the New Parkway, and Other Cinema hosts an anti-ICE evening with Psycho-Geo2: Occupied State at Artists' Television Access (and remember to donate to ATA's rent emergency fund!).

Sunday, Naruse's Sound of the Mountain and a new restoration of Robert Bresson's Four Nights of a Dreamer are at BAMPFA, one (presumably) final screening of Israel Palestine on Swedish TV 1958-1989 is at the Roxie, the Stanford's last silent western with live Wurlitzer accompaniment for its Western seasons is Erich von Stroheim's legendarily truncated, SF-set classic, Greed, Babbette's Feast is at the Lark, and SFMOMA presents a matinee of works and performances by Lynn Marie Kirby.
