Monday, black hole cinematheque's Newsreel Series continues with High School Rising and SF State: On Strike, two films about student protest movements in the West Bay (the latter of which you might have seen parlayed into the Richmond Oil Strike, shown a few weeks ago), the Balboa's Hitchcock Fest continues all Memorial Day, including a noon matinee of Stage Fright and the local premiere of the doc Kim Novak's Vertigo, Funeral Parade of Roses screens at the Alamo Drafthouses New Mission (NM), Vallery Fair (VF), and Mountain View (MV), Top Gun: Maverick (through Wednesday) is at the Drafthouse MV, and Vietnamese drama Ky Nam Inn continues at the Orinda.
Tuesday is the fourth to last day to see Ephemera Unearthed!, the Craig Baldwin exhibition at SFAI Legacy foundation, closing Friday, Odyssey Film Institute presents Martin Scorsese's The Aviator (on 35mm) at the Balboa, black hole's Newsreel series moves to Artists' Television Access with Army, ROTC, and Only the Beginning, three short docs about resistance to the Vietnam War from within the armed forces, Carrie (reepating Wed) is at the Drafthouses NM and MV and The Rage: Carrie 2 may or may not be showing (at time of writing it's on the calendar as this week's Terror Tuesday pick, but no showtimes are listed), the Roxie has Little Caesar continuing their Wild, Weird, Wicked: Films From Before the Code series and repeats of Amadeus (theatrical, repeats Sat) and eXistenZ, the Orinda has a free matinee of Key Largo, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (in 3D) is at the Vogue.
Wednesday, Frida is at the Lark with Frida in America author Celia Stahr, The Sniper is at the Balboa, Diva (repeats Thursday) is at the Vogue, and John Carney's Sing Street is at the Landmark Opera Plaza.
Thursday, the Orinda's Women Directors series continues with Kelly Reichardt's Certain Women (featuring Lily Gladstone's breakout role) with two 16mm shorts by Naomi Uman and Jenni Olson, SF DocFest kicks off at the Roxie and runs through the weekend (floating to Artists' Television Access, the Vogue, and other venues), the Western Neighborhoods Project presents the West Bay-set, Jack Lemmon-set Good Neighbor Sam, and the Stanford's weekday double feature is a late Hitchcock double of Torn Curtain (our feature this week—see below) and Topaz (both on 35mm, repeating Friday).
Friday, the Niles Essanay Silent FIlm Museum's talkie Friday screening is Dr. Strangelove (on 16mm), The Fall (repeats Sat) is at the Balboa, and Up in Smoke (repeats Saturday) is at the Lark.
Saturday, the Roxie takes over New People Cinema in Japantown for another weekend with Rashomon and Hirokazu Kore-eda's Monster, Other Cinema winds down its season at Aritsts' Television Access with the latest entry in their Avant To Live series, the Smith Rafael screens Decision at Sundown, the 4 Star has Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (repeats Sunday) and an Angés Varda triple feature of The Gleaners and I, Jane B. par Agnès V., and Cléo from 5 to 7 (the latter two repeating Sunday), the Drafthouse NM has I Love Boosters with a livsetream Q&A, Park Chan-wook's The Handmaiden (repeats Sunday at Drafthouse MV), and Frances Ha (repeats Sunday at the Drafthouses VF and MV), the Stanford's weekend Hitchcock double is Psycho and Frenzy (both on 35mm, repeating Sunday), and the Niles screens early Harold Lloyd feature Grandma's Boy (on 35mm).
