Wednesday, Kevin Bacon cycles San Francisco in Quicksilver at the 4 Star, the Stanford screens Hawks/Bogey/Bacall double of The Big Sleep and To Have and Have Not, Good Will Hunting is at the Landmark Opera Plaza, eXistenZ returns to the Roxie, Desperate Living is at the Drafthouse NM, The Handmaiden is at the Drafthouse MV, and Rocketman is at the Balboa.
Thursday, the second ever screening of newly unearthed Andy Warhol footage is at SFMOMA, BAMPFA's Summer season kicks off with a French Noir series, starting with Jean-Pierre Melville's Bob le flambeur, The Lost Weekend is at the Balboa, Set It Off (repeats Friday) is at the Vogue, some sort of 70s clipshow (I think?) with live music is at the 4 Star, and among the week's DocFest programs is Ross McElwee's Remake at the Roxie.
Friday, at the Roxie, for those of you who need a little more despair in your life, the American Cinematheque's touring Bleak Week program settles with Czech eavesdropping thriller The Ear, Silent Friend continues, Arnaud Desplechin's Two Pianos opens at the Lark (might be your only chance if you missed it at SFFILM?), BAMPFA screens Sergei Loznitsa's latest, Two Prosecutors, Sara Dosa's Time and Water opens, Matilda is at all three Drafthouses, and Dazed and Confused is at the Balboa.
Saturday, the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum screens Henry King's original 1925 silent adaptation of Stella Dallas, Shapeshifters Cinema presents Against All Odds: London, programmed by Karel Doing, Frameline presents another New Queer Cinema/Trans New Weird double at YBCA with Gregg Araki's Totally Fucked Up and Jane Schoenbrun's We're All Going to the World's Fair, the Smith Rafael screens Eraserhead and kelp forest doc Seqouias of the Sea with filmmakers Natasha Benjamin and Ana Blanco in person, the Roxie screens Amadeus (theatrical cut, repeats Sun.) and a centenary celebration screening of The Life And Times of Allen Ginsberg, invites director Sara Dosa and film subject Andri Snær Magnason are in person for Time and Water, and Made in Hong Kong continues Bleak Week, the Lark screens The Illusionist (2010) with a live magic show, Sisters is at all three Drafthouses, more French Noir at BAMPFA with Elevator to the Gallows, Hairspray (1988) is at the Balboa, Tekkonkinkreet (repeats Sun.) is at the Lark, My Own Private Idaho (repeats Sunday) is at the Vogue, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is at the Orinda, and The Muppets Take Manhattan (repeats Sun.) is at the 4 Star, who also host Joe Talbot for the HydeFM Frequency [Short] Film Festival.
