Monday, start your theatrical year off right by getting in the rush line for Filipino director Lav Diaz in person to present his Gael Garcia Bernal-starring Magellan (otherwise opening next Friday) at the Roxie, where director Ondi Timoner is in person to present her Palisades fire doc All the Walls   Came Down (Timoner is at the Smith Rafael Tuesday), Reese Witherspoon debut The Man in the Moon is this month's 50 Movies You May Not Have Seen, That You Should pick at the Orinda, the Alamo Drafthouse New Mission (NM) starts a  Twin Peaks watch-along from episode 1, which also floats to the Valley Fair (VF) and Mountain View (MV) during the week, The Terror (on 16mm) is at the Balboa, drag zombie horror comedy Queens of the Dead is at the New Parkway, Lupin the 3rd: The Castle of Cagliostro and A Fistful of Dollars are at the Lark, and if you missed filmmakers Sara Khaki And Mohammadreza Eyni presentoing their doc about a divorced,  motorcycle-riding, ex-midwife councilwoman in small-town Iran at their other recent appearances, they and Cutting through Rocks are at the Rialto Elmwood.

Tuesday, Flesh for Frankenstein (in Digital 3D) is at the Vogue, the Drafthouse NM has Dario Argento's Tenebre and the Drafthouse MV screens Reservoir Dogs (at NM on Wednesday), Bi Gan's Resurrection and a Sundance-selected shorts program continue at the Roxie, A Touch of Zen is at the Balboa, and The Godfather is at the Lark

Wednesday, the Drafthouse NM's Weird Wednesday pick is Nobuhiko Obayashi's The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (1983), the Nic Cage-starring Vampire's Kiss (repeats Sunday) is at the 4 Star, Back to the Future (repeats Thursday) is at the Vogue, and The Godfather Part II is at the Lark.

Thursday, a one-off screening of Bacurau by all-the-awards-contender Kleber Mendonça Filho (whose wonderful The Secret Agent is playing somewhere near you right now and, prominently featuring a movie theater, should really be seen in a movie theater), celebrate Bowie's birthday with Moonage Daydream at the Balboa (also at the Drafthouse NM on Sunday), Big Trouble In Little China (repeats Friday) is at the 4 Star, Artists' Television Access hosts its monthly OpenScreening, and  The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone is at the Lark.

Friday, the Smith Rafael starts The Shortlist, its annual weeklong showcase of international Oscar nominees, the Stanford screens an Ingrid Bergman classic double feature of Casablanca and Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious (both on 35mm, both repeating through Sunday), the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum's Talkie Friday pick is Paramount on Parade (on 16mm), Darkman is at the Drafthouse VF (MV on Saturday), an at rush show of In The Mood for Love kicks off BAMPFA's new Wong Kar Wai season, Kristin Stewart's directorial debut, The Chronology of Water, opens at the Roxie, who also have an Almost Midnights screening of This Is Spinal Tap, The Warriors (repeats Saturday) is at the Lark, and Blow Up (repeats Saturday) is at the Balboa.

Saturday, the West Bay's got a double dose of film-focused gallery openings with Fort Mason Center's Anthony McCall: First Light presenting three of the filmmaker's "solid light" works and Slash Art presenting Sky Hopinka: Sonic Transmissions, a Gina Basso-curated installation of six of the artists' single and multi-channel video works (see our interview with Hopinka on the occasion of his receiving SFFILM's POV award), the Niles screens Peter Pan (1924, 16mm) in celebration of Jon Mirsalis's fifty years of silent film accompaniment, the Drafthouse NM has a matinee of Three Days of the Condor, The Strange Love of Martha Ivers and Wong's As Tears Go By are at BAMPFA, You Got Gold: A Celebration of John Prine is at the Smith Rafael, where The Voice of Hind Rajab also screens with two of its actors in person (who also appear at the Roxie for a matinee), a final screening of Robinson Devor's Suburban Fury is at the Roxie, The Wizard of Oz (repeats Sunday) is at the Balboa, Blade Runner is at the 4 Star, and Pulp Fiction is at the Orinda.

Sunday, Akira Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress, Egyptian classic Cairo Station, and Wong's Days of Being Wild are at BAMPFA, Kokuho director Sang-il Lee is in person at the Smith Rafael, All That's Left Of you director Cherien Bais is in person for an at rush matinee at the Roxie (and a not-at-rush screening at the Smith Rafael that evening), The Philadelphia Story is at the Lark, Lawrence of Arabia is at the Orinda, and puppetteer and artist Risa Lenore presents a "Build Your Own Crankie" workshop at Shapeshifters.
