Monday, Ethan Iverson introduces Elevator to the Gallows at the Vogue, the Smith Rafael's series of International Oscar nominees continues, The First Wives Club is at the Alamo Drafthouse Mountain View (MV) and Princess Mononoke (through Wednesday) is at the Drafthouses Valley Fair (VF) and MV, The Chronology of Water and The Voice of Hind Rajab continue at the Roxie, and The Philadelphia Story is at the Lark.

Tuesday, black hole cinematheque presents the late Peter Watkins' Aftenlandet (Evening Land) at Bathers Library, Strawberry Mansion director Albert Birney is in person at the Roxie to present his new film, OBEX (repeats Friday), Hong Kong horror obscurity The Cat is at the Drafthouse New Mission (NM), the drag queen zombie horror comedy Queens of the Dead is back at the New Parkway, and Millennium Actress  is at the Balboa.

Wednesday, Shapeshifters Cinema welcomes Jennifer Reeves to present a program of her work in celebration of a new release of her work by the intrepid, invaluabe Re:Voir home video label, Jennifer Jason Leigh-starring Georgia is at the 4 Star, Sam Raimi's Darkman and underground German punk dystopia Decoder are at the Drafthouse NM, Luis Buñuel's Viridiana is at BAMPFA, a free with RSVP community screening of Some Like It Hot (on 35mm) is at the Roxie, the Super Shangri-La Show presents Salem's Lot at the Balboa, and Pink Floyd: The Wall (repeats Thursday) is at the Vogue.

Thursday, Welfare, Frederick Wiseman's essential documentary, continues BAMPFA's Wiseman series, SFCinematheque brings Jennifer Reeves to the West Bay for a screening of The Gloria of Your Imagination at Gray Area, Womb House Books intros the 1992 Binoche+Fiennes Wuthering Heights, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai is at the Balboa, Slumdog Millionaire (repeats Sunday)  is at the 4 Star, and The Godfather is at the Orinda.

Friday, Noir City opens a music-themed year at the Grand Lake with Dan Duryea-starring Black Angel and the OG jazz noir Blues in the Night (on 35mm), Maurtiz Stiller's 1920 sex comedy, Erotikon (on 35mm), opens BAMPFA's new series, Swedish Silent Cinema: Victor Sjöström & Mauritz Stiller, programmed by Jon Wengström, Senior Film Curator of the Swedish Film Institute, interviewed for our feature this week below, Shapeshifters Cinema welcomes Zoe Beloff to screen two recent works, B. Monét presents her short film Ballet After Dark at the BlackMaria Microcinema (also Saturday), All You Need is Kill and Lav Diaz's Gael Garcia Bernal-starring Magellan open and This Is Spinal Tap plays at the Roxie, This is Spinal Tap also plays all three Drafthouses, Mandy is at the Balboa, Natural Born Killers (repeats Saturday) is at the Vogue, Mountains of the Moon (something about tripping, skiing, and the Grateful Dead?—repeats through Sunday) is at the 4 Star, The Big Lebowski (repeats Sunday) is at the Lark, and the Stanford continues its Ingrid Bergman double feature of Casablanca and Notorious (on 35mm, through Sunday).

Saturday, a one-off screening of Zhang Yimou's Gong Li-starring Ju Dou is at the Roxie, Jon Wengtröm gives a free lecture at BAMPFA and Laura Truffaut presents an at-rush screening of The 400 Blows (on 35mm) to launch BAMPFA's new series of her father François Truffaut's films, Noir City presents two double features at he Grand Lake, To Have and Have Not and Nocturne (on 35mm) for the matinee, then the Ida Lupino-starring The Man I Love and Rita Hayworth-starring Gilda in the evening, the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum presents D.W. Griffith's Home, Sweet Home (on 16mm), a Dolly pair of Steel Magnolias and The Best Little Whorehouse in Teas floats around all three Drafthouses for the weekend, Charade is at the Balboa, Curious George (repeats Sunday) is at the 4 Star, who also has a Dolly Double with The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and 9 to 5, and Conan the Barbarian is at the New Parkway.

Sunday, the 4 Star has an Udo Kier (RIP) double feature of Andy Warhol's Dracula and Monika Treut's Seduction: The Cruel Woman, BAMPFA presents more Swedish silents with The Wings & Ingeborg Holm, more Wiseman with another of his Taladega films, Blind, and more Wong Kar-Wai with an already at-rush Chungking Express, Noir City's Sunday double feature features Jean  Negulesco's Joan Crawford starring Humoresque (on 35mm) and Michael Curtiz's Kirk Douglas, Doris Day, and Lauren Bacall-starring, Bix Beiderbecke-inspired Young Man with a Horn, The Twilight Samurai is at the Balboa, and Gaza Surf Club, Videodrome, and The Big Lebowski are at the New Parkway.
