In tribute to that spirit, the Fall 2017 edition of our “Waverly Midnights” series showcases 12 films featuring women in strong, defiant roles set in both the near and distant futures. Ranging from the rule-breaking cult classics of Barbarella and Ghost in the Shell to the patriarchy-smashing V for Vendetta and Mad Max: Fury Road, these movies remind us that the future is what we make it. The future is here, the future is now—the future is ours.
