Since her stunning 1999 feature debut, The Virgin Suicides, Sofia Coppola has remained a unique voice in contemporary film. Often focusing on the inner and outer lives of young women, Coppola’s work demonstrates a remarkable ability to speak to her audience in a naturalistic manner about mundane daily dramas and big issues alike—while recognizing that they are often the same thing. Having written and directed all of her films, she is an auteur in the true sense of the term. Coppola has been named the 2025 MoMA Film Benefit honoree, and this series celebrates her full career by presenting all of her feature films, from The Virgin Suicides to Priscilla (2023)—including five 35mm prints from MoMA’s collection—as well as her 1998 short film Lick the Star.
