Screening 2001: A Space Odyssey has become an annual tradition at the Museum; this year we will present the brand new “unrestored” print of Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece, celebrating the 50th anniversary of its release. After premiering at Cannes, the print comes to the Museum for its exclusive New York summer engagement. With its bright, vividly detailed images and rich sound, a 70mm film print offers an unforgettable theatrical experience. This year’s selection includes three great musicals: The Sound of Music, West Side Story, and Gene Kelly’s underrated version of Hello, Dolly!. The lineup is rounded out by Tobe Hooper’s sci-fi cult favorite Lifeforce, the lavishly produced Hollywood extravaganza Cleopatra, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s breathtakingly beautiful and melodramatic Phantom Thread.
