This year's edition of Rooftop Moviehouse at the Czech Center New York revisits the 1990s: a time when freedom seemed to have no limits, especially in post-revolution Czechoslovakia. It was a time of coming-of-age — not just for individuals, but for the country itself. A decade of collective euphoria... and collective sobering.
The 1990s also saw the rise of a strong new generation of filmmakers and actors, many of whom became household names for decades to come. This year’s Rooftop Moviehouse series looks at what these then-emerging voices chose to capture in such volatile, wide-open times through a selection of Czech(oslovak) cult classics.
