Politics in Cinema

In recognition of the perilous political reality American citizens all face today the Grand Lake Theater has programmed a special double bill of two great films that deal with different political realities.

Frank Capra's immortal 1939 classic  MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON is a wonderful inspirational film that deals with dishonesty in an elected official and how truth and integrity can ultimately overcome corruption.

James McTeigue's V FOR VENDETTA  (2005) deals with the struggle against a fascist regime and how  the power of  ordinary citizens rising up against oppression restores freedom. This movie is especially pertinent today as we are watching our democracy and social safety nets being destroyed by a corrupt administration.
