Polish History in Film Masterpieces

Presented in collaboration with the New York Polish Film Festival. On the 100th anniversary of Poland's independence, this series draws from a rich cinematic history to present some of the greatest Polish films ever made and shows how cinema has been crucial to Poland's ongoing struggles for independence. The series opens with Wolyn, one of the most ambitious and acclaimed Polish films in recent years with actor Arkadiusz Jakubik in person; reception follows. Other films include Andrzej Wajda's Ashes and Diamonds, The Promised Land, and Man of Marble; The Pianist;and more. Film scholar Annette Insdorf will introduce several films.
