Malcolm X was a fearless truth-teller—a revolutionary who fought for Black dignity, self-determination, Pan-Africanism, and global solidarity. As a leader in the Nation of Islam, he challenged white supremacy, condemned US imperialism, and took pride in his African heritage. After breaking with the Nation, his politics evolved toward anti-capitalism and Pan-African socialism, rooted in the belief that liberation comes not from the goodwill of oppressors but through collective resistance.
To mark his centennial, BAM and Alfreda’s Cinema present Malcolm X at 100, The Moving Image, a film festival honoring Malcolm’s enduring love for his people, family, and truth. As both a cultural critic and documentarian, Malcolm saw cinema as a tool for political education and global connection. “History is a people's memory,” he once said, urging us to claim our past as a weapon in the struggle for freedom.
