Karyn Kusama at Nitehawk Williamsburg

Series Site

We love Karyn Kusama.

For nearly two decades, Karyn Kusama has been two steps ahead of us in the movies game. She first blessed cinema when the debut feature she wrote and directed, GIRLFIGHT, burst onto the scene winning the Director’s Prize and shared the Grand Jury Prize at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival. This film introduced the special way in which Kusama tells her stories and, since then, she’s never given us the same film twice.

In 2005, she boldly created the live-action version of AEON FLUX with Charlize Theron in her first action-heroine role and ten years later invited us to a nightmare of dinner party with THE INVITATION. A devotee to the horror genre, she teamed up with three other women directors for the horror anthology XX in 2017 and provided a female-focused ending to one of cinema’s great devilish tales. And then there’s JENNIFER’S BODY. The brilliant comedic horror film (written by Diablo Cody) that has rightfully cemented its status as a classic as it becomes more relevant with each passing year. Now, with the release of her fifth feature film DESTROYER starring the inimitable Nicole Kidman, it’s time for all of us to catch up.

Karyn Kusama will join us for a discussion following the January 24th screening of JENNIFER’S BODY!
