The Paris Theater is thrilled to announce our full lineup for the third annual Big & Loud, a screening series that will deliver four consecutive weeks of cinema’s most unforgettable sensory experiences with a jam-packed lineup of 70mm, Dolby Atmos, and audio-obsessive cinema!

Series Highlights

The series - playing August 29 through September 25 - originally debuted in 2023 upon the historic Paris Theater’s reopening to showcase its state-of-the-art technical upgrades, including a newly installed Dolby Atmos sound system and the technology to screen 70mm for the first time in fifteen years. With over 500 seats, Manhattan’s last remaining single screen theater also became its largest Atmos cinema.

This year’s edition of Big & Loud is our most exciting yet, featuring 41 films, including 13 films on 70mm, and 6 films presented with special Dolby Atmos sound mixes. Big & Loud offers a completely immersive experience, with picture and sound that allows audiences to fully immerse in the worlds onscreen, reveals new details to even the most seasoned filmgoers, and brings the intricate, thoughtful sound design of some of cinema history’s most gifted film artists to life.

In addition to the previously announced New York premiere of the Paris’ own newly struck 70mm print of the newly-restored, director-approved version of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Big & Loud’s 70mm lineup includes a dozen more titles, most making their Big & Loud debut and some of which haven’t played on 70mm in New York in over 30 years!

The Paris Theater will debut our very own brand new 70mm print of David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia! Additionally, producer Paul Zaentz will join us for a Q&A following a rare 70mm screening of Miloš Forman’s Best Picture Oscar winner Amadeus, from a print courtesy of The National Science and Media Museum in Bradford, England. Also playing in 70mm are a recently re-discovered, beautiful print of Ghostbusters, David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune, Jacques Tati’s brilliant, dialogue-free comic masterwork PlayTime, Paul Verhoeven’s Schwarzenegger/ Stone thrill-ride Total Recall, Quentin Tarantino’s Oscar-winning Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s The Doors, Mel Brooks’ uproarious spoof of the Star Wars universe, Spaceballs, a pair of Christopher Nolan’s most exciting and ambitious works -  Interstellar and Dunkirk - and of course, the glorious spectacle of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Films presented in Dolby Atmos include Blade Runner: The Final Cut and its sequel Blade Runner 2049, a new 4K restoration of The Wiz, Alfonso Cuarón’s Oscar winner Roma, the Wachowskis’ The Matrix, and George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

Special events include the New York premiere of a new 4K restoration of Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon, some of master filmmaker Werner Herzog’s most compelling and rarely screened short features presented in a collection called Herzog on 45, a special show of the Original 1979 Roadshow Version of Apocalypse Now newly available in a 4K Restoration supervised by Francis Ford Coppola, and Stepping Into the Unknown: Films from the Bob Dylan Center, a program of short films and videos from the Bob Dylan Archive featuring rare and previously unreleased clips of Dylan on stage and in the studio; the screening will be followed by an onstage conversation between Steven Jenkins of the Bob Dylan Center and Elvis Costello!
