It’s the biggest year yet for Anime After Dark, Nitehawk’s annual bizarreride showcase of anime classics. With an eye towards groundbreaking, edgy and downright trippy titles, Anime After Dark 4 features five screenings of anime oddities that push the limits of good sense and good taste.
This year, we have the rare chance to catch Kazuya Tsurumaki’s wild cult classic FLCL in theaters; Studio Ghibli’s debut film, the sci-fi epic NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND on 35mm; the beautiful and undersung war film ROYAL SPACE FORCE: THE WINGS OF HONNÊAMISE; the Brooklyn premiere of Masaaki Yuasa’s new feature THE NIGHT IS SHORT, WALK ON GIRL; and the transgressive, queer, psychedelic battle to revolutionize the world, ADOLESCENCE OF UTENA.
