The first annual Cinema Showdown. To celebrate the release of Christian Petzold’s MIROIRS NO. 3 (Cannes Director’s Fortnight, TIFF, NYFF) and Alexandre Koberidze’s DRY LEAF (Locarno, TIFF, NYFF), Screen Slate is proud to partner with 1-2 Special and Cinema Guild to present a soccer match pairing two of our most essential international filmmakers.
Petzold and Koberidze in-person to cheer on, coach—and perhaps play with—the two teams. Additionally, each player will also receive a limited edition custom jersey commemorating the event.
We're accepting players on a first-come, first-serve basis through this sign-up form. But you don't have to play to participate! Show up and cheer on your favorite team.
- MIROIRS NO.3 plays at Film at Lincoln Center and IFC Center [Tickets]
- DRY LEAF plays at Film at Lincoln Center [Tickets]
MIROIRS NO. 3 is the latest work from internationally beloved director Christian Petzold, following iconic works such as Transit, Barbara, and The State I Am In (also playing at Film at Lincoln Center as part of their series Christian Petzold In-Person). It premiered in Cannes last year and was followed by screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival. The film follows Laura (Petzold regular Paula Beer), who survives a shocking car crash only to awaken under the care of a mysterious woman. As they grow closer, Laura begins to uncover ghosts of the past that cannot be ignored.
DRY LEAF is the follow up to Alexandre Koberidze’s acclaimed sophomore feature, WHAT DO WE SEE WHEN WE LOOK AT THE SKY? After premiering at last year’s Locarno Film Festival, it made appearances at the Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival. Shot in ultra resolution, it’s another stunning metaphysical mystery, following Lisa, a photographer, who goes missing. The last known detail is that she had been photographing rural football stadiums in villages across Georgia. Her father, Irakli, sets out to search for her, traveling from place to place. Levani, Lisa’s best friend – and an invisible person – also sets off to help.
