NYFF Opening Night
The 56th New York Film Festival opens tonight with Yorgos Lanthimos's The Favourite and continues through October 14 with more than 30 films in the Main Slate. That's in addition to sections like Projections, Spotlight on Documentary, Revivals, Convergence, and a Retrospective tribute to the late distributor and exhibitor Dan Talbot – meaning cinephiles have their hands full over the next two weeks.
To help out, this year we've put together our eighth annual round-up, including capsule takes on 11 titles and counting. This article will be updated throughout the festival, to be noted on our daily email and social media. Head over now for takes on Ash is Purest White (Jia Zhang-ke), Border (Ali Abbasi), Burning (Lee Chang-dong), Diamantino (Gabriel Abrantes & Daniel Schmidt), A Faithful Man (Louis Garrel), If Beale Street Could Talk (Barry Jenkins), Long Day's Journey Into Night (Bi Gan), Monrovia, Indiana (Frederick Wiseman), Ray & Liz (Richard Billingham), Roma (Alfonso Cuarón), and Too Late to Die Young (Dominga Sotomayor).
