Mi Vida Loca
Tonight Allison Anders appears at Alamo Drafthouse to present a rare 35mm screening of Mi Vida Loca, her 1994 film about Chicana gang members in Echo Park cast primarily with local nonprofessionals. (The screening is sold out, but the film is overdue to be included in regular programming rotation.) For Screen Slate, Caroline Gil has conducted a longform interview with director, which touches on on casting, navigating a shoot around gang territory, female filmmaking inspirations, and the ability of various tight-knit communities to recognize themselves in the story.
