Mi Vida Loca

Tonight Anthology Film Archives presents a rare, members-only 35mm screening of Mi Vida Loca, Allison Anders's 1993 film about Chicana gang members in Echo Park cast primarily with local nonprofessionals. Last year Screen Slate's Caroline Gil has conducted a longform interview with director, which touches on on casting, navigating a shoot around gang territory, woman filmmaker inspirations, and the ability of various tight-knit communities to recognize themselves in the story. Read it here.

Tonight's screening is described as a "sneak preview" for the series A Real Young Girl: Coming of Age, curated by Hannah Greenberg, running August 2-18.
